Yeah, Forces Unleashed looks awesome, but there are two things about it that I'm concerned about:

1) Frame Rate and Animations. The current version, while possessing some good physics and AI, has an unplayable FPS and some unrealistic animations. That'll probably be fixed soon enough.

2) No Wii Version. Now now, before someone runs in here and explodes at me for being a Nintendo geek, hear me out. There are versions for the PS3, 360, and PS2. It can't be technically limited, because the PS2 is about 1/3 as powerful as the Wii. It can't be popularity limited, because the Wii is outselling the PS3 2:1.

And, I'm sorry, but how awesome would a wiimote lightsaber game be? Lucasarts would make tons of cash, not to mention it would be the #1 version of Forces Unleashed to buy. (Unless, of course, the physics or AI are limited to the 360 and PS3. Then I guess it would do worse...)

Oh, Jeremy, I didn't know you were a hockey fan.

I'm not huge on the sport myself, but any game that allows its players to slam eachother into the wall and features all-out brawls as a common event can earn itself the rank of my favorite.

by the way jeremy, welcome to blogging. ryan kindel constantly jabbering about every tiny unnecessary gaming detail.

and how he thinks that EVERYTHING could work on the wii.

whereas so much could go wrong it isnt even funny.

WHOA MAN WHOA

FORGIVE ME, BUT I DON'T SEE A SINGLE GOOD REASON WHY THE PS2 IS A BETTER PLATFORM THAN THE WII.

[and obviously I mean potential-wise. No duh the PS2 has a larger library and smaller price, etc. etc...]

And how are frame rate and animations unnecessary details?

Seeing as they're the 2 main parts of the graphical holy trinity (the 3rd being FLIP THE SETTINGS TO MAX) it's not like Forces Unleashed would be just as good a game if it has an FPS of 15 and hands that seem more glued to a substance than gripping it...

AND HERE COMES COMMENT #6. I'M ON SUCH A ROLL IT'S LIKE I'M FREAKIN' ANON...

But why wouldn't Forces Unleashed work on the Wii? I'm aware that motion sensitivity's importance is questioned by some, but I don't think anyone actually considers it a hindrance...

motion sensing is the one of the least exact sciences in video gaming. srsly.

Ryan said...

Gpin- Yeah yeah, Red Steel, a launch title mind you, sucks. Yeah, it has bad swordplay. But that says absolutely nothing about what other titles could do with motion sensed swordplay.

Saying that is like saying that the PS3 has bad graphics because Mobile Suit Gundam had bad graphics. Or, for that matter, like saying all cheese tastes awful because you tasted some with mold on it. It's not true.

Tusken: Have you ever used the Wii? You do realize that the wii-mote is as close to a mouse as any controller has ever gotten, right? Sure, comfortably pressing a button with your thumb is "exact," but utilies like DDR or the EyeToy have shown that a new. unconventional method of control can go a long way in improving games.

Granted, motion sensing hasn't been done all that much in video games, at least not as much as the Wii, so a lot of the games out there poorly implement it because developers aren't used to it- hence, games like Red Steel that make people wonder why Ubisoft, generally a fantastic publisher, would let something so rushed and clumsy hit store shelves.

Also, Forces Unleashed was pushed back to '08.

yes haha i have played the wii. on multiple occasions. i think it can be good fun. i just personally think that motion sensing should be more reserved for single titles instead of an entire console. it comes of as a wii bit gimmicky (hahaha i finally got to use the pun)

Ryan said...

Nice use of the pun, and yeah, sometimes it can be used in very, very wrong ways.

For example, take Call of Duty 3. Most of the controls are responsive and perfectly functional, but whenever the player is thrust into a scripted melee sequence, the game designers found it necessary to make them punch quickly and ridiculously fast, in a way that was completely different from actual hand-to-hand combat.

If it's unrealistic AND unenjoyable, developers should fix it or stick to buttons.
