Wii60?

Stupid

Oh. Wow.

I'll admit I was expecting some sort of new hardware because- and I'm going to be brutal here- the 360 is beginning to fall behind in sales and MS doesn't seem to have the exclusive software to back it up. Besides GoW 2 and Alan Wake there aren't a whole lot of titles coming, whereas PS3 is looking beautiful in '08 and the Wii has Mario Kart and Wii Fit in the near future.

I'm not criticizing the 360 because I want to piss people off, but because when I needed to decide between PS3 and 360 I needed to make a very difficult choice. Since E3 '08 the PS3 has had a lot of games in the pipeline, and last year it almost seemed like Microsoft was going all in on Halo 3. Now COD4 has (rightfully, IMO) outsold Bungie's Sci-Fi shooter on the 360 and with the failure of HD-DVD the PS3 is starting to look more and more compelling than its white-green rival.

So even though we should have seen it coming, a 360 Wii-mote does seem like a desperate move to me. I think when the Wii first came out, many people expected motion sensing to become a standard. But in my mind it's too little, too late. If the 360 would utilize the same technology as the Wii then clearly there's not a whole lot it could do BETTER; to Wii owners it's basically redundant. Plus, as a general rule, add-ons like this sell badly if they aren't a standard from the console's launch (ex. the 360 HD-DVD attachment or the SNES Super Scope).

And, to be frank, I'm not so sure that motion sensing really is the wave of the future anymore. MS will need to do more than copy Nintendo's ideas if they want to sell some more consoles.

Also apparently PS3 is the only version of GTA4 that has offline splitscreen.

Not sure I'll be able to get it anyway ("Hey Mom and Dad, what do you think about prostitution/ murder/ blood/ drugs?") but just in case I am TOTALLY happy to have meh PStriple.

(although, admittedly, playing before May 9th seems quite unlikely)

DISREGARD THAT SPLITSCREEN STUFF

It's from the first (probably fake) review, so not reliable. But I still want that game hard.
